The Roundhouses Cabins Northumberland

The Roundhouses Northumberland lodge

We have been looking forward to staying at The Roundhouses for ages. We eventually got the chance to go just after Christmas for a short break. Albeit they are just up the road in Northumberland for us, it’s still the peace and quiet we needed.

Where are the lodges located?

They are located just outside of Powburn in Northumberland. It’s about a 20 minute drive to Berwick / Bamburgh and about an hour from Newcastle. It’s really easy to get to by car but you do need to keep an eye out for the ‘The Roundhouses’ sign at the farm.

What is included in the lodge?

Inside the lodge at The Roundhouses

The lodges are finished to such a nice standard. We were so amazed when we walked in with all of the lovely finishing touches! You get a big double bed and some extra blankets in case it gets chilly, which I thought was a nice touch if you even wanted to sit outside. There are two little armchairs that are in front of the big windows, which differs from lodge to lodge for the style. Our lodge was Wether Hill that we stayed in. Each lodge also has an outside tub that you can fill with bubbles and watch the night sky.

The lodges have an open plan kitchen in the main area. There is the usual toaster and stovetop kettle and a good size fridge and a coffee machine with a few eco friendly pods. One of my favourite touches was the little bakes left out for our arrival! I put a short reel up on Instagram here of the lodge.

What is there to do?

The sauna at Breamish Valley Spa

As well as just enjoying the peace and quiet and the dark skies, there’s still lots to do nearby. Most are a driving distance away, but nothing beats a nice walk and explore followed by relaxing in the lodges tub!

Head down to Breamish Valley Spa, which access is free to in your booking with the Roundhouses. We spent an afternoon here enjoying the sauna and hot tub. You can book into a treatment too, but we decided not to. You can also book into The Bosk, but typically it’s closed Mondays and Tuesdays, the two days we were there!

Bamburgh, Berwick and Ford & Etal are short drives away too. We had an amazing stay at Ford & Etal in February last year at the Cheviot Brewery. We wished we had a bit longer so we could’ve went back up that was, one of the most beautiful areas we’ve been to!

Where is there to eat nearby?

The running fox nearby at Powburn

Well The Roundhouses are near the best afternoon place to exist, The Running Fox. We went for lunch one day and were stuffed all day! You’re also close to Marshall’s Cafe which I’m still devastated was closed when we went. A short drive away you’ll also be at Alnwick where you’ll be spoilt for choices! Or you can do what we did and just make something in the lodge with the most amazing views!

We’ve stayed in quite a few lodges, albeit barely scratched the surface for the ones nearby, but this was our favourite so far. The personal and aesthetic touches were second to none here. I wonder if they can come decorate our house! We’ll definitely be back here again.
