Weekend away at Cheviot Glamping in Northumberland

We weren’t planning on a weekend away for Valentines, but so happened it was the only weekend free this month. We hunted high and low for somewhere affordable to stay and stumbled upon Cheviot Glamping in Northumberland. There wasn’t much on their socials to go by, but we thought it looked lovely so booked up.
It always feels weird going on holiday and not even leaving the county that you live in. But then again Northumberland is such a massive county! Ironically an hour away from home and it’s an area I hadn’t really been to before!
What are the pods like?
They do Glamping pods, tents and also little cottages on site. The Glamping tents are only there April to October time however, but they look fab. The Glamping pod that we stayed in came equipped with two double beds (bunks), a sofa, gas job, small kitchen table and bathroom with a shower. They are quite basic but they are cosy and the bed is so comfortable. I can’t imagine being more than 2 though, it was a squish with the dog in tow!

What is located on site?
The pods share the site with three resident alpacas which we loved to go see. The site also shares its space with Cheviot Brewery and Cheviot Tap which is the brewery’s bar. The onsite bar was lovely, there is inside and outside seating and could’ve sat there all weekend. I bet it’s amazing in the summer when they have the pizza oven burning! They are limited food wise in winter, unless there is an event on. We were lucky to try their Valentines taster menu which was amazing!

Where is it located?
Up towards Berwick just off the A1, so the place is really accessible and has good road routes around. It is located on the Ford & Etal estate, which is probably one of the most well kept areas I’ve experienced in Northumberland! It’s located in a lovely secluded area and so peaceful.
What is nearby?
Probably the first time we’ve stayed somewhere that had loads to do nearby. Sometimes you have a massive drive to get somewhere, or things are really difficult to get to. It was nice at the ease of being able to get around to see other places.
We visited Holy Island, which I hadn’t ever been to before. We spent a lovely afternoon walking there, before we had to leave before the tide came in. It’s only about 25 minutes from the lodge so not far!
Berwick is nearby too, whether you want to grab some food or have a look around the pretty city. It’s so easy to get to and take about 20 minutes.
We also popped to Dunstanbrugh Castle, I love the walk around there. It’s a lush stretch of coastline and a good walk to stretch your legs. You can always park at Craster too and make a whole day of it!
It was such an affordable visit, the pods and the bar aren’t expensive so you can enjoy all the aspects. The locals were all so friendly to sit with too. Wish this was on our doorstep!
