Valley of the Kings in Luxor Egypt from Hurghada

I’ve wanted to go to Egypt for absolute years. My grandma always said she would take me but we unfortunately never got the chance to go. Me and Ben had a week off and fancied our first all inclusive holiday, and picked Egypt. I really wanted to see the Valley of the Kings and the pyramids so thought why not!
Where to stay?
Valley of the Kings is in Luxor, which is about 4 hours from Hurghada. When we looked at Sharm El Sheikh it was a plane ride away, so knew if we wanted to go we had to stay at bit closer. You can stay in Luxor itself or other closer resorts, but we really fancied a chill holiday amongst it all.
What Valley of the Kings tour to book from Hurghada?
We had one saved on Get Your Guide for a few weeks, but thought we would wait till we got to our hotel to see if there was other options first. We looked at TUI seeing as that is who we booked with, but the price was almost double for the same tour! So we definitely recommend Get Your Guide Luxor Tour.

How is the journey?
The pick up time is 4am, so it’s soo early but it’s so you get there with enough time. You get a little packed breakfast bag on the bus and also some water. We didn’t even realise this was included! You arrive at Luxor around 9am which is the perfect time as it’s not as hot at that time. You have a 20 minute stop off at a station half way, so you can have a well needed wee break and stretch your legs.
What do we need to remember for the tour?
Cash is the most important of everything. Although a lot of places accept card, it’s much easier getting access to the toilets with cash (Egyptian, euros, pounds and dollars). Plus you will need it for tipping! Secondly is comfortable shoes and clothes! It’s hot and there’s lots of walking and travelling. I’m so glad I packed comfy shoes to wear. Thirdly, sunscreen. It is hooot!

What is included on the tour?
With the tour you get your transfer from a Hurghada hotel to Luxor. Your first stop at Luxor is the Temple of Karnak. This place was huge and there was so much walking (and a lot in sunshine). Our tour guide that we had for the day showed us around and talked us over everything there and all the history. You then get 20 minutes to yourself to explore.
After this you stop off at the Nile and get a small boat across to where you will go for lunch. You get about an hour hear to refresh etc.
It’s then a quick stop off at the Mortuary Temple, but you’re just here to grab a photo. As then it’s off to the big show, the Valley of the Kings.
You will spend about an hour and a half at the Valley of the Kings. We saw the tombs of Ramses, Tut Ankh Amun and a few others. There is so many so you don’t get to see them all! After this you do a short stop off at a gift shop, then onto the Temple of Hapshepsut. This place was boiling hot and quite a struggle to walk around after a day in the heat! I was quite glad to get on the air conditioned bus!
All in all I am so glad we did this. It was all unbelievable to see and experience and we learnt so much from our tour guide. It’s a long tiring day but something you have to see. I do wish we could’ve done the pyramids too, but they were another full day and a plane ride.
I’ve got all the photos saved on a highlight on my instagram plus a few reels, if you want to see some more photos!
