5 slow days in Scotland in a camper van

Views on the way to isle of skye

This was our second jaunt up to Scotland in the camper van. I know you can cram things in and do the NC500, but we’re really enjoying the slow exploration route. We ticked off a few lovely places a few years ago, and this time managed to visit the Isle of Skye amongst a few others.

How to get around?

We rented a smaller campervan from Northumberland Coastal Campers the other year, and although it was easier to get around than the motorhome this year. I can’t cope without a toilet! This year we had a motorhome so we had the full whack, so when it comes to wild camping it was perfect! We saw 100s of the Indie Campers around too, so these must be easily accessible! There is so many camp sites around, so plenty of choice.

Where to stay?

You can wild camp around a lot of Scotland, so it’s so easily accessible whether you’re in a tent or motorhome etc. We opted for campsites, just so there was electric and showers for an added bit of comfort. We stayed at Creagan Station Tourers on our first night, just a bit of a waypoint on our way up to the ferry. It has a lovely pub in walking distance and amazing views! The second night we stayed at Sunnyside Croft in Arisaig. We loved this place, the most beautiful beaches and so relaxing and quiet. Small town nearby for paddle boarding too, if you don’t have your own. The next night we had booked two nights at Kinloch Campsite on the Isle of Skye. Unfortunately we didn’t rate it so we left after 1 night and cut our days at Isle of Skye short. But we went back to Sunnyside as we liked it so much!

What is there to do?

Relax! Walk! Eat! It’s the whole point of being up in Scotland, take in the most beautiful sites and then relax after walking around. We took our paddle boards with us, and there was some perfect spots to go out on the water!

There are so many places to see depending on where you go. On our route there was the Harry Potter train. FYI, this route is PACKED. It is really hard to get parked unless you get there early! We stopped off at Kilt Rock Waterfall, Portree, Old Man of Storr, Highland Coo’s, Eas d’ Bhradain and lots of other pretty spots we were just driving passed.

We already can’t wait to go see some more of the Isles next year! We’re thinking Isle of Mull and a bit more of the surrounding areas. Where would you go?
