Favourite lodges in the North East

As much as I love a holiday, you really can’t beat a nice lodge / cabin break close to home. They can be a little pricey sometimes, but a short break is sometimes all you need. I have some favourite lodges in the North East, albeit I haven’t tried them all and still loads I need to try!

Cheviot Glamping (Cheviot Tap), Ford and Etal Estate

Lodge at Cheviot Glamping

We came across Cheviot Glamping on a whim after viewing about 100 instagrams for lodges nearby us. They didn’t have much marketing or much about them, but we gave it a chance. It was a dog friendly lodge up towards Berwick and benefited its own tap room on site (and alpacas). The lodges themselves are quite simple, but they have everything you need. Comfy bed, cooking facilities, en-suite and outside terrace. They also do some tents in the summer months I’d love to try! We had some beautiful food at the onsite tap room and everyone was so welcoming. We already plan to go back later in the year!

Hewn, Yorkshire

Lodge at Hewn Yorkshire

I stayed Hewn back in Winter and had such a lovely time. It was so quiet and the dark skies from the wood fired hot tub were something else. The lodges are comfortable, have ample cooking facilities and really spacious. There is a huge wet room / shower room, so really accessible accommodation. It was a good mix of feeling like the middle of nowhere but really close to the likes of Barnard Castle etc for some walks through the day. There’s also a new addition of a spa on site now, so definitely overdue another trip there!

Crowdy Hall, Sedgefield

Lodge at Crowdy Hall

We went to Crowdy Hall for a break in between Christmas and New Year and went when there was one of the lovely storms. So the lovely outside tub was decorative and ruined by gale force winds! But we still had the best time ‘off the grid’. We played board games in front of the fire and ate lots of nice food. The bed overlooks a lovely shuttered window where you can watch the world go by. The room also has a shower and an incinerator toilet, so all very eco. It’s nice and remote so you can sit and have a peaceful few nights.

We have tried a few others but as much as we had lovely times, they were expensive and didn’t seem worth it to us. Newton Hall cabins were beautiful but the finish of the cabins was to a really low standard and for such an expensive price, not really worth it! Next one we’re desperate to try is the Roundhouses, patiently looking for a free weekend soon!
