Things you need to know before visiting Zadar
Press trip – Zadar is actually somewhere I’d never heard of before. Though I’ve always wanted to visit Croatia, you never hear much other than the usual. Don’t get me wrong though, I do want to see Dubrovnik and Split one day too! But now Ryanair fly to Zadar from Newcastle Airport it’s a lot easier to get to. And more affordable.
When I was researching what to do in Zadar I struggled quite a bit. I couldn’t find a lot of things to do, but the photos of it looked amazing. So definitely couldn’t not go. Even if we just people watched in a cafe.
The lovely tourist board of Zadar drew us up an itinerary. However we didn’t quite realise the public transportation system isn’t the same as other places. It’s quite limited, so in hindsight there is a few things I wish we had know first.
What do you need to know before going to Zadar?
Transport
The car part really thew me off, I’ve never been somewhere that requires a car before. I’m so used to using the public transport in whatever country I’m in. The buses are so few and far between. So I definitely recommend either booking excursions or renting yourself a car.
Currency
The currency is Kuna, which (at the time of writing) has a really good exchange rate. We took our Monzo cards but we did have to withdraw cash for some places. Though if you only want to use card, you can still get around. Just be warey you can’t use the bus without cash.
Transport from the airport
We thought we could get either a Bolt or Uber, but boy we were wrong. They just wont pick you up. And the taxis at the airport are extortionate! So again either book yourself a transfer to where you are staying. Or there is a public bus every 30 minutes or so. The bus is about 7 Kuna, which takes 20 minutes. As opposed to around 200 Kuna for a taxi.
