Newcastle’s new amazing Tapas restaurant Cafe Andaluz
I love Tapas, but Newcastle’s always had quite a limited selection for some Spanish style Tapas. There is amazing ones like Muddler, but you also can’t beat a normal Tapas experience. When I saw the new Cafe Andaluz all over Instagram I knew I needed to get myself booked in. Tracking down your friends this close to Christmas is hard work, but we managed to squeeze it in last weekend. The only ‘Spanish’ Tapas I’ve seen in Newcastle was when we had Tapas Revolution.
I feel like it’s been an age since I’ve been out for food in Newcastle. But with Christmas coming up I have lots of foodie outings planned. One of my favourite parts of the run up! I think the last time I had a proper meal out in Newcastle was Chaophraya in the Summer! I’m always popping in and out for lunches but quite a while for an evening.
Inside Cafe Andaluz Newcastle
The interior of the Cafe Andaluz was impressive, not exactly a Spanish vibe but beaut none the less. It was almost quite a Turkish restaurant vibe inside, but I loved it. It was warm and inviting and really cosy. Sometimes I find when there is just two of you, you don’t always get a good table. But we got a lovely 2 person booth at the back which I loved. It meant we could sit and chat and catch up and it wasn’t too loud. Plus we were so comfortable we didn’t even realise how long we had been there!
The tapas plates
There is a lot to the menu. So much so it took us a lot longer than we thought to choose what we wanted. We got 7 plates between us, which I think was just right and left space for pudding. We did a mix of veggie dishes and meat dishes to try a bit of everything. We chose the goats cheese, garlic bread, battered chicken, beef strips, creamy potatoes and the croquettes. It’s the first time I’ve never got Patas Bravas, but the creamy potatoes didn’t disappoint. The small plates were all amazing except the beef strips, they were a bit too chewy but the rest made up for it. We also finished off our small plates with the beaut white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake. It was a tough choice between that and the churros, but a good one at that.
The prices
For it being near the Theatre Royal and the top of Grey Street the prices were really reasonable. For the two of us, 6 plates, a pudding and 2 cocktails it came to £78. Which for a fancy meal out somewhere I don’t think is bad.
It definitely lived up to the hype, so it’s one I’ll be back to. It’s the perfect location and food for a date night, day out with the girls or even as a family. I’m already thinking about the cocktails I didn’t get to try. Or the aubergine veggie dish I didn’t get either! Have you been to Cafe Andaluz yet?
