Breaks in the UK and where to go

Shepherds hut in Devon

I must admit it’s not often I go away in the UK, a lot of the time it’s a lot cheaper to go abroad. But with our current situation a lot of people are sticking to the UK this year. With such uncerctainty it’s hard to know what is best. There is so many places in the UK to visit. It’s just trying to find the best breaks in the UK and where to go. Or where to start! You might want to stay close to home, or maybe venture further to somewhere new.

Northumberland

Maybe I’m slightly biased as I live here. But Northumberland is such a big and beautiful place. You can go from hiking, to beach walks to a countryside stay. There is a bit for everyone. Personally I just love the beaches up here. Nothing beats a sunny trip to Bamburgh. Even though I live in Northumberland, I’m desperate to stay in a Hesleyside Hut. They are the cutest little mixture of cabins around Northumberland. Hopefully one day!

Lake District

There is so much to see in the Lake District, even if you don’t particulary like long walks. There is plenty of short walks, water sports or even just enjoying the peace. We quite often used to stay at the lakes, but haven’t been for a while due to families health. It’s definitely a place I love, whether it’s a long weekend or week. Everyone you meet is always friendly, and the pubs have the best atmosphere. Plus you get some lovely fresh air! I’ve detailed all the best places in the Lake District in my post a few years back. However I couldn’t not recommend the Coppermines! What amazing cottages they have.

Devon

I visited the Devon area for the first time last year. We did fly down for ease, but the drive isn’t as bad either. We stayed at a Shepherds Hut in Oakdown Holiday Park. It was the cutest little village and had lovely beaches and walks nearby. There is also an all year round Christmas Shop in Sidmouth! The best little store ever. You do mostly need a car to get around when down here however.

Scotland

I know Scotland seems so broad, but really depends on what you’re after. You can do a city break in the likes of Glasgow or Edinburgh. Or again if you like walking the have beautiful lakes and mountains to visit. I always remember my trip to Ben Nevis as a child. It’s one place I’d love to revisit now I’m older. If you’re really adventuous, you could do the Scotland 500. I’ve always wanted to, but I’m in need of a partner and campervan!

Wales

When looking at trips online, Wales comes up a lot. There is always amazing cabins, glamping huts and cottages on Booking.com. One day I’d love to be able to go here.

Yorkshire

I’ve stayed in the Yorkshire area a few times. Sometimes in a hotel, sometimes in a lodge. Lodge with a hot tub is always the better experience in my opion. You can relax and do as you wish your whole trip. Plus there is so many amazing walks and museums there. And who doesn’t love a day trip to York or Whitby too. On our last visit we stayed at the Raywell Lodges. They were in the middle of both York and Hull. So got the best of both cities!

Northumberland farm fields

As much as the UK doesn’t always have the best weather. We do have beautiful countryside, cities and beaches to visit. And if you book well in advance and search around, you will find some great deals. (or even last minute). At the moment I’m sure any change of scenery is a good change!

As I live in Northumberland I’ve been out and about more here. We’ve got beautiful walks whether it’s the beach, woods, further into the country. I’ve been packing the dogs up for the afternoon and gone exploring. Though now I’d really appreciate a change of scenery. Just somewhere new to feel like a ‘holiday’. Until I can get on a plane safely that is!

What are you planning to do this year. Are you staying in the UK or booking yourself a trip?
