Cilantro Tapas, Newcastle
I always love a foodie trip, so I always try to do something on NE1 Restaurant Week. Scrolling through the website to see which one to book, we saw a restaurant that we didn’t recognise. After looking how good the restaurant week menu was, we were all desperate to go to Cilantro Tapas.
The Menu
The restaurant week menu doesn’t differ too far from their usual menu. So even if you’re going outside of restaurant week, you’ll still have the same amazing choices. You have the choice of the tapas options, a curry or even both.
The Tapas Menu
For the tapas options, there is a range of veggie dishes, some Latino inspired dishes like tacos and nachos with an Indian twist. I got the a beef chilli taco, which was so much bigger than I thought but absolutely delicious. The keema nachos, which was also a much bigger portion that I thought and again delicious. There was some fish goujons and spicy fries going around our table too, which were amazing. Could quite happily have ordered the full menu.
The Curry Menu
With it being the restaurant week menu, we got the option of having a tapas size curry too. I opted for a butter chicken for an easy choice. Although the bhuna looked unreal so I definitely need to get that next time.
The Sides
From a chocolate and chilli naan to a good old garlic naan, lots of options to pick and choose from. I am still so intrigued by chocolate and chilli! You can also get your usual poppadoms and chutney, although I’m sad these wasn’t any like pickle.
The Restaurant
They actually have two restaurants, one in Hexham and one on the Quayside. The one on the Quayside has been done out lovely, it also has a nice mezzanine area which overlooks the restaurant. To staff couldn’t do enough for you and are so friendly and chatty.
Overall, we had such a lovely meal. The wait times were long, but it was restaurant week, so to be expected. It wouldn’t stop any of us going back. We spent all the next day talking about how good the food was!
