The best places to go Paddle-boarding in Newcastle
I’ve found a new favourite thing to do, paddle-boarding. I’ve always enjoyed it when I was abroad but haven’t done it in the UK until recently. I love exploring Northumberland and the surroundings anyway, but it is even prettier seeing it from the sea apparently!
We’ve been trying a few different places, and a few that we always go back to. Sometimes you just find a place you enjoy no matter how many times you go. But I’ve also really enjoyed seeing the new places too. And the places we’ve got lined up to go to.
Blyth, Northumberland
Right on my doorstep, but funnily enough never came here until I moved here. There is different parts of the beach which are perfect for different reasons. My favourite one being nearer the harbour and bridge. It’s beautiful at sunrise and sunset as the sea is so calm. Plus it is actually quite a quiet beach in comparison to some.
Cullercoats Beach
This one is my absolute favourite and the one we most often go to. You have loads of different places you get to from here, and its great for when you’re finished too. We often paddle to Tynemouth and stop for a coffee before turning back. There is such good caves to see to if you go at the right tide time. This beach can be quite busy, so earlier or later the better.
Tynemouth Bay
Tynemouth is a little more wavy that the others, so it’s not as smooth to get out. Might be if you can surf! However it is a beautiful beach, and has good cafes and restaurants directly on the beach. You can go out and see the Priory from the sea too which is amazing.
Druridge Bay, Northumberland
I’ve walked the dogs here so many times, and fell into the lake from the stepping stones. But never have I been paddle-boarding here yet! It’s a beautiful park, and always full of people on their boards or swimming. It also has plenty parking facilities for you unlike a lot more of the other places.
Walkworth/Amble, River Coquet
This is one I am dying to do. I love walking along here on a summers day, so I bet it’s lovely on your board. Imagine going down to the bridges at Warkworth and how peaceful it is there! I really want to tick this one off.
Lake District
I’m off Lake District in October and I can’t wait to take my paddle-board with me. Me and my cousin really wanted to do it the other year but we didn’t have a wetsuit to go in. Coniston lake is one of my favourites, so I’m really looking forward to going here. We’ve also booked next June too, so I’m looking forward to that at Ullswater too.
Newbiggin Beach, Northumberland
I went here recently with a guy, thinking it would be lovely as I love walking here. However it wasn’t my favourite beach to go to for paddleboarding. The sea itself isn’t as clear and enjoyable. But they do have a great paddleboard rental place right on the beachfront, which is actually affordable. Blyth has this too, but the times are quite limited.
